Rusty Rose's Restoration Project

Mike Dobie shows me the ropes of 140 rebuilding! We disassembled the engine, inspected the parts, and made a "to do" list.

I haven't modified this engine much from stock... .030 over TRW pistons, modified cam, folded fin oil cooler, balanced parts, and a few of the modifications found in the Tech Guide.

Of course, I had to modify a few engine shrouds to make this engine fit in the early.

 140 Engine Rebuilding

This was one of the more fun things on this project so far... 140 heads.

I conned Louis Pinard of Bossier City, LA, into helping me out here. After cleaning and blasting the heads, we heated them up, replaced the valve guides, and milled the surfaces back to true. Lew took them back home with him, and continued to modify these heads.

Unfortunately, I don't know (or even understand!) some of the things he did, but I'll list what I remember... resurfaced step, modified valve spring shims to match cam modifications, deflashed cooling fins, smoothed out ports and ground off step, put in a few heli-coils, and did something or another to the valve seats!
...take it apart... clean it up... put it back together! Transmission
